My name is Andrea Free and Valleyriver Kennels is the realization of a dream I first had forty years ago when I fell in love with my first Staffordshire Bull Terrier bitch Jackie. I don't think we ever recover from our first Stafford love affair and why would we want to?!
Forty years later and on the other side of the world we live on a 5 acre block with tons of room for the dogs to run around and no neighbours within sight or sound. Our dogs are first and foremost our pets, they sleep inside with us and we have complicated rotas for the sofas!
Our aim is to produce show ring quality Staffords but nothing is more important to us than temperament. We want stunning dogs with that wonderful loving nature that the breed is famous for. All our dogs are DNA tested and clear and there is no history of allergies or skin conditions in our lines.
Our foundation bitch and matriarch of Valleyriver is Keira (Foxestown Catherine Ellen). She has the very best bloodlines behind her and has a sister, brother, father, uncle, grandmother, grandfather etc all Champions in the show ring. She has correct conformation and is very intelligent as well as beautiful but most important of course is her nature which is .... well everything a Staffords nature should be! The most valuable attribute of a foundation bitch is her ability to pass on her quality to her progeny and this is exactly what Keira has done for Valleyriver - in spades! All our dogs come from her and we are so proud of her - and grateful!
Our showing has been stalled by Covid but before the lockdowns began Evie (Valleyriver Lyrae Star) who is Keira's daughter won 4 Challenge Certificates (you need 8 to be a champion) even though she only attended a handful of shows so hopefully when we get back into the swing of things she will win another 4! We also hope to show our younger girls and our gorgeous stud dog Dylan (Shadowstaff Hi'land Warrior of Valleyriver).
All our puppies are sold with a contract which states they are not to be used for breeding or showing. However if the puppy is good enough to show and you are keen, we can easily lift the restriction. The contract also states if you ever have to rehome the puppy we will either approve of the home you have found or you will need to return the puppy to us to rehome on your behalf. We care deeply for every single Valleyriver pup - for it's whole life. Valleyriver offers lifetime support to all our puppy families, no question or problem is too small, I am always happy to help. Often the biggest most stressful situations can be resolved within 24 hours with just a few emails!
In the scrapbook attached to this page you will see lots of photos of our pups, youngsters and dogs. Most of these were posted by their families on our the Valleyriver FB Group. Lots of our families regularly post videos and photos and its great to see what our pups and dogs are up to. Litters Expecting
We are expecting a litter around the 15th May and puppies will be ready for their new homes around the 15th July. The sire is Ronnie a stunning UK stud dog from which I imported frozen semen, You can see a photo of him above. The mother of the litter will be Millie, Valleyriver Matakana Sweetheart. We are also expecting another litter at the same time, The mum is Evie Valleyriver Lyrae Star, you can see a photo of her below with her pedigree. The dad is Dylan Shadowstaff Hi'land Warrior of Valleyriver, there is a photo of him and his pedigree below too. Both mums and dads have super soft loving natures and we are expecting quite a few red pups and some brindles. Evie and Dylan have already had one litter together and their pups were stunning. Ronnie has recently sired an all red litter - and the puppies are just beautiful - so beautiful in fact that I'm keeping two of them for myself!
