East Coast Ladies Kennel Association

The East Coast Ladies Kennel Association is one of New Zealand's youngest All Breeds Dog Clubs, formed in June 1996.

The first of several Match Days was held in October that year and, following official Recognition by the New Zealand Kennel Club (NZKC) in February 1998, the club hosted its first Ribbon Parade in May 1998. The NZKC granted the club Associated status in 1999 enabling it to hold its first Open Show in December 1999. This was a great success.

The club then held two Open Shows each year, one in conjunction with the Wairoa Kennel Association Championship Shows (March/April) and what became our traditional Christmas Open Show in December. Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th December 2003 were momentous dates in the clubs' history for this is when the newly affiliated East Coast Ladies Kennel Associations inaugural, and very successful, Championship Shows were held.

Back-to-back Championship Shows continue to be held in December. Well-attended Ribbon
Parades are held throughout the year.

Upcoming Events

ECLKA holds our annual Christmas Extravaganza on the first weekend of December each year. This year we have two Championship shows on Saturday 3rd and 4th of December 2021. We will be holding our “Stake & Steaks” night on Friday 3rd as well as our World Famous in Hawkes Bay Art Deco Fashion in the Field.

We will be joined this year by the East Coast Gundog Show Society, The Pointer Club, Wellington & Districts Labrador Club, Hawkes Bay Terrier Club,  Wanganui Toy Dog Centre, Taranaki Working Dog Association, German Shepherd Dog Club, Heretaunga Plains Toy Dog Society, Junior Dog Handling & Young Dog Showing.

This is all held at Waikoko Gardens, Hawkes Bay A&P Showgrounds, Kenilworth Road, Hastings.

Ribbon Parades are held regularly, however this year we'll be holding a Double Open Show which is scheduled for Sunday 31st July 2022 at Napier Dog Training Centre Grounds, Papakura Domain, Sandy Road, Meeanee, Napier.

Show training is also held weekly. During summer this is on a Wednesday evening. When daylight savings ends this moves to Saturday afternoons (when we’re not all away showing).

Contact the committee for more details. Classes are free but we do ask for a gold coin donation if you are able.
